Boy or Girl?

So I'm about 8 weeks pregnant today and naturally we've been wondering... will we have a boy or a girl? We went for our 2nd ultrasound a few days ago, but obviously the baby is still not developed enough to determine its sex. Inside, I'm hoping for a boy (I come from a family of 3 girls), while the DH doesn't really have a preference (in a good way).

So being all curious and stuff, I've been looking up so-called "gender predictions" on the Internet, trying to spot signs of whether I'm having a girl or a boy. So far, they are all pretty silly like if you have morning sickness, it's more likely you're having a girl (I haven't had a single bout of morning sickness). Or if you crave more for fruits and vegies rather than meats, you're probably having a girl (hmm... fruits and veg for me). Faster heartrates (for the baby) also indicate a girl... check!  Even "tests" on the internet tell me it's a higher chance we're having a girl.

If you're curious about your own pregnancy, try this Old Wive's Tales Gender Prediction quiz for fun, or "calculate" it based on a Chinese Gender Chart (both indicate we will be having a girl).

Or, if you are seriously curious, I found a few Gender Prediction Test kits online (who knew they existed!). At only $19.95, I'd be tempted to give this a shot (just for fun of course), but then again, all these tests have a 50/50 chance of getting it right after all. At the end of 9 months, I'm pretty sure I'll be happy to just have a safe pregnancy and a healthy, chubby little bub!

Baby iPhone Apps

Since there are iphone apps for almost everything, I naturally did a search on baby / pregnancy apps and downloaded a few. Out of those I downloaded, my favourite is "BabyBump" as it helps you keep track of your baby's growth both daily and weekly, plus gives you some tips on what should be happening to your body and what changes to expect. A fun, quick read first thing in the morning or before going to bed!

There's also the option to pay to upgrade to the deluxe version (isn't there always?) but for now, I'm just gonna stick to the free version and see if it will be worth the money later.

First Ultrasound

Went for our very first ultrasound today and saw a teeny blop that is our baby. As small as it is (all but the size of a little bean), we were so amazed to be able to hear its tiny heartbeat already! Didn't expect something that tiny to have such a strong (and quick!) heartbeat!

So out of curiousity, the minute I got home, I googled for instruments that would help us hear our baby's heartbeat on our own and (ta-da!) found an Ultrasound Pocket Doppler that would do just that!  This once was a bit expensive though and stated it was for "clinical" use so that was disappointing.  The next best alternative I could then find (at a much more affordable price) was a Graco Prenatal Heart Listener that also seems to do a decent job according to reviews.  However, as tempted as I was to indulge in one, I figured it would probably be much more exciting to look forward to meeting our baby every 2 weeks for now :)

It's A BFP!

Took a pregnancy test this morning and found out we are pregnant with baby number 1! The positive "+" appeared almost immediately (we used Clearblue tests), it took a while to register before I called out to hubby.

"Take a second one later this afternoon, just to be sure!" he says.

So I did and it was still a BFP!

"Go to the doctors later, just to be sure!" he says.

So I did and (surprise!), still a BFP!

We are absolutely stoked and cannot wait for everything to develop and unfold before our eyes. This is going to be one exciting experience for the both of us!
